Hello and welcome to Signed Jaclyn. I'm excited that you are here.
For those who don't know me, I'm Jaclyn, the creative mind behind Signed Jaclyn. I live in Dalby, Qld and I'm a mum of 2 teenage kids (17 and 14) and the wife to one EXCEPTIONAL husband.
I've always been a little creative, as a kid I was always doing something on the veranda, being making paper, pressing flowers, papier-mache, or painting little ceramic figurines. I grew up in a small country town and I was lucky enough to live beside a creek (albeit it's was mostly always dry) and I spent a lot of my time 'down the creek' with my awesome friends and sisters.
"Down the creek" when it was actually running
As an adult, when I had my children I found my love of cake decorating by making their birthday cakes. I have since upgraded birthday cakes to wedding cakes and you can find me over at Scrummy Cakes on facebook as well. I've been making and decorating cakes for over 15 years now, but professionally for over 10.
One of my FAVOURITE cakes
I love being able to pour my creativity into things, and it really does light the fire in my soul.
At the end of 2018, beginning of 2019, I decided that it was time to redecorate the home that Adam, the kids and I have lived in for 14 years - to put my stamp of style on the house. I mean, I had done a few projects before this like painting our bedroom furniture and a hutch for my cake studio. But I really wanted to sink my teeth into creating a space in our (very small) living room that we all would love and enjoy being in.
So I started researching. I've always been in love with the Farmhouse/Shabby Chic/French Country/Chippy Paint style. I started watch DIY videos on YouTube and started to follow some You Tubers and figured I could give anything a go.
I decided that I wanted to start by decorating my walls and I made a family name sign - this really started my whole Signed Jaclyn journey. I posted this on Facebook and I had friends asking me to make them one, then they posted theirs on Facebook and I had their friends asking for one.
The sign that started it all
I then decided it was time to freshen up our furniture in the lounge room and painted the table and chairs that Adam and I first got when we moved in together in 2002. The family table that we've had countless family meals at, something that we are both really sentimental about. It took one brave brushstroke to start painting this table, but oh my gosh, we both LOVE it. I painted all the furniture (apart from the Grandfather clock - which I have not decided on a colour yet) in white, which really brightened up the space. I also re-upholstered the chairs and made new cushion covers for the cushions on the couch. I also added a rug to the floor under the coffee table to zone that space. Just by doing something as simple as painting our furniture made a huge difference to the space. It made it feel so homely and cozy.
